European Directive on data retention - consultation on the final phase

The final phase of the Transposition of Directive 2006/24/EC on data retention is open for consultation.

Comments are welcome on the directive which aims to make sure certain data is retained so public authorities can investigate, detect and prosecute crime.

The consultation process, which closes on 31 October 2008, will ensure the law includes internet access, internet telephone service, and internet mail.
